EVANS IN SQUAD

Corry Evans has been included in the squad of Northern Ireland for the World Cup qualifying match against Israel which is going to be played on Tuesday at Windsor Park, Belfast.

Evans was not a part of the original squad that was announced a few days ago. He was warming up before the match between Hull City and Crystal Palace and while doing that, he injured his quadriceps. He was not expected to get fit before Northern Ireland’s match against Israel. So, he was left out of the squad.

But, Evans recovery was quicker and he managed to get fit on time. He went through a fitness test a couple of days back and passed that.

Evan’s return would have given a lot of relief to the Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill as Evans will strengthen the midfield.

Northern Ireland has struggled in the World Cup qualifiers so far. They are yet to secure a win in the World Cup qualifying tournament. They only have three points in the bag at this point of time and they don’t have a great chance of qualifying for the world cup.

Northern Ireland’s previous match against Russia was postponed due to heavy snowfall. It was scheduled to take place on Friday. At first, it was postponed by a day. But, the conditions didn’t change the next day. So, the match was postponed again and the new date of the match hasn’t been fixed till now.

The weather forecast for Tuesday is also not good. More snowfall is expected and the match between Northern Ireland and Israel might also have to be postponed.

At Windsor Park, Northern Ireland has so far played a couple of world cup qualifiers and in both those matches, they have shared points. They obviously wouldn’t want the same result on Tuesday as they need a win badly.
